About Me

Mini Biography: I can't wait to get to know you!  I have always been excited about the world around us.  I graduated from UNC -Chapel Hill with a degree in Biology.  I obtained my teaching certification at Averett University and began teaching science at Bartlett Yancey High School in 1988.  Because I was also interested in Chemistry and Physics, I have many graduate credit hours in those fields as well.  I taught there for 30 years in various subjects, but mostly Biology, Physics and Chemistry as well as AP Biology.  I became certified in gifted education and in 2011 obtained my much sought-after National Board certification in adolescent young adulthood science, and renewed my national board certification in 2022. I joined the Galileo Magnet High School faculty in 2018.  Here I teach mostly AP Environmental Science, Genetics, and Advanced Biology.  I am married and have one surviving son. (and a dog named Honeydew and a cat named Sophie!)
